Three meaningful ideals contained in the NAEYC and DEC codes of ethics.

I-1.3-To recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities, and potential of each child. (NAEYC, 2005, p. 2)
Each child is different because they all have been through different experiences, and based on those differences is how they get and modify their knowledge and skills.

I-4.6- To promote knowledge and understanding of young children and their needs. To work toward greater societal acknowledgement of children’s rights and greater social acceptance of responsibility for the well-being of all children. (NAEYC, 2005, p. 7)
It is my responsibility as teacher in the early childhood field to let people know the importance of early years in every child’s life, and provide children opportunities to grow in a healthy environment at school.

III. 1. We shall demonstrate our respect and concern for children, families, colleagues, and others with whom we work, honoring their beliefs, values, customs, languages, and culture. (The Division for Early Childhood, 2000, para. 22)
Differences among people provide us the knowledge we cannot get through own experiences, and those differences give people their uniqueness in life.

  1. I agree with your comment that it is a part of our responsibility as an educator to help people understand the importance of early education and the stages of their lives! We carry an important role, we're not "Just teachers"

  2. Hi Caty,
It is the differences in people that help us be who we are. If we were all the same the world would be a pretty boring place. I love exploring the differences in the children that I work with. We all come from different size families with different backgrounds, different expectations and abilities. We explore the things that we have in common in our class as well.

  3. Like I said in my blog all children are different and learn in different ways. Like Lucinda said if they were all the same it would be pretty boring. I love working with children and seeing everyday how much they grow and change.

  4. I chose Ideal 4.6 too. I didn't realize how much I could improve in that area until last week's application. One day I hope that people realize we aren't just teachers or babysitters as well!

  5. I agree that we as teacher and professionals in this field have a responsibility to share our knowledge and educate others on the importance of healthy growth and development in the early years.
